Main Description
Ancient (1781) Domaine in 1 hectare of land. Set around a large square courtyard and comprising of a large farmhouse and four stone barns this property would be ideal fo someone looking for a large family home in a tranquil setting, or to make extra accomodation by converting some or all the barns to living space.
Outside: The entrance from a quiet lane into the courtyard is 'guarded' by two beautiful stone barns with Napoleonic style roofs that perhaps, at one time long ago, have been farmworkers cottages. The two other barns sit to the east and west of the courtyard with the main house at the south.
Garden: The terrace and garden at the rear of the house have unspoilt views over open countryside across the River Abloux valley to the forest beyond. The garden with an ancient well is on three sides of the house, and to the rear the garden runs into a paddock/field that would be perfect for anyone wishing to keep horses or other animals. Total land is one hectare (2.47 acres). The gravelled courtyard offers private off road parking for a large number of vehicles.
Inside: The ground floor is currently arranged with two small bedrooms,a kitchen/utility room, shower room with toilet and a very large open plan living room with heavy oak ceiling beams, exposed stones and other original features. There is a very efficient inset wood burning fire in the old stone fireplace. Further kitchen facilities are currently fitted to one end of the living area. 'French doors' open onto the decked terrace at the rear and another out onto the courtyard at the front. An open staircase leads up to a mezzanine cum minstrels gallery looking down into the living room. Four large bedrooms lead off from the mezzanine, and there is also another shower room with a toilet.
This unusual and lovely Domaine is in a peaceful hamlet set in the unspoilt and protected Brenne National Park, a wildlife conservation and heritage area of great natural beauty, that is set in a forgotten part of the country known as 'France Profund'. On a quiet lane and only a mile away from the nearest village with many shops and services the Domaine is in a perfect position to give peace and tranquility without being totally isolated. Prissac has a boulangerie, butcher, grocer, cafe, bars, tabac, hairdresser, restaurant, filling station, school, chemist, dentist and other services. A supermarket and banks are available at the larger town of St Benoit which is a 10 minute drive away.
The channel ports are only a 5 1/2 hour drive, and Limoges and Poitier airports (fed by Stanstead and Southampton) are about a 1 1/4 hours drive. Argenton (about 20 mintes away) has excellent rail routes to other parts of France and Chateauroux, the nearest TGV station, is about 45 minutes aay.
