Q: Getting to and from the UK? A: Easy - Ouistreham(Caen) less than an hour's drive away.
NOTE: We are currently receiving a lot of interest. To avoid disappointment do arrange a viewing sooner rather than later. This is the best time to arrange a viewing because the owners will be at the property.
What makes this property different is not only what it consists of but it's positioning in the countryside. The peace and tranquillity of the area makes it an ideal setting to 'get away from it all' and is a perfect place for quiet reflection. It is set at the southern end of Swiss Normandy; an area of outstanding natural beauty and a popular tourist destination. Travel from the port of Caen (Ouistreham) to the property is a mere 55 minutes. Paris is only 2 hours to the east and the lovely old town of Bayeux and the Normandy beaches are just an hour to the north. It is also en route south (A88) for Le Mans, Tours and the South of France, with Brittany just a couple of hours away to the west. The nearest town is Falaise, which is the ancestral home of William the Conqueror.
The property overlooks the large lake through which flows the River Orne. The lake is used, amongst other things, for water-skiing, canoeing and fishing. The property has its own access to the lake including a pontoon sufficient to moor two boats. The property sits right by an ancient randonee or path which starts at Chartre Cathedral and ends at Mont St. Michel and was used by monks on pilgrimage. In a nearby gorge sits an ancient ruined monastery which was a stopping place for the monks.
The vendors will consider all reasonable offers.
The property itself consists of 2 substantial buildings; one in the manner of a balconied modern-style pavillon which overlooks the lake and the swimming pool which is topped up by your own spring, whilst the other is constructed in the manner of a chalet. Both have their own kitchens, dining rooms and large salons and both have 4 double bedrooms in each property. Heating is provided by individually controlled electric heaters whilst there is a large open fire place in the main house.
You and your guests can also enjoy the 'niche' in which is situated a sauna, shower and spa from which you have views of your own pinewooded ravine. Included is a large garage which is big enough for a badminton court or a couple of table tennis tables. In addition there is parking for 5 or 6 cars off the road. Both houses have substantial storage rooms and the pavillon has its own separate underground garage and utility room. Access to the property is directly from the quiet minor road running alongside that crosses the bridge over the lake. The whole property sits in approximately 2.5 acres of its own pine forest criss-crossed with paths and streams.
The property is ideal for the sports enthusiast who wants access to the lake, the retiring couple who can enjoy the potential supplementary income from the chalet and those who want to be in France but then not too far away for a quick drive back to the UK.
