Highlights
Disneyland Paris and the royal town and forest of Fontainebleau attract many visitors each year. Those after culture should visit the village of Barbizon, an internationally renowned snapshot of yesteryear much beloved by artists. One of the flagship sites of the area is the ancient baronial seat at Blandy-les-Tours with its numerous red-roofed towers soaring above the fortified walls of the castle; in the 14th century, this became the model château for builders throughout the rest of France. Another medieval county seat is the city of Provins which was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2001, built to hold fairs in the Middle Ages and the best preserved city of its type in the whole of France.
