Ain
Located in the northern part of the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, between Lyon and Geneva, Ain shares a border with Switzerland. The church of Notre-Dame is a striking 16th-century building and the Royal Monastery of Brou on the edge of the town is a much-visited national monument.

Ain is home to one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Europe, the Parc des Oiseaux in the Dombes plateau which houses more than 2,500 birds including some rare species.
