Argentat is a village in southern Corrèze, in the region of New Aquitaine, on the borders of the departments of Lot and Cantal, 40 km east of Brive. The place known as the bargemen's capital made the most of its strategic location on the banks of the Dordogne. It is a beautiful place to sit and watch the river from the ancient gabares quay as it flows past the pretty cafes and swirls away under the bridge. There is an array of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a school and local market twice a week.
