Property Description

AUTOIRE: There are places that definitely have a soul. A sort of imprint of time, felted but testifying to the beauty of yesteryear. This is undeniably the case here for this property of 270 m2 living space in the heart of a village listed as one of the most beautiful in France. A guest house of 57 m2 and an atypical garden of 700m2 full of charm perfectly complement a timeless place. For the main house, the presence continues throughout the rooms and its atmosphere, as well as in the architectural elements, majestic and rare. Stones, fireplace, stairs, wooden doors ... Living room and living room, each of 35 m2, immerse you in the authenticity of the period, as well as the 4 large bedrooms on the upper floors including 2 with bathrooms private. Walking between the different spaces is a constant delight. A magical place that awakens the soul as few know how to do. A nod, no doubt, for this former presbytery who knew how to keep his faith and his lofty spirit. A place to revive in our modern comfort, to fully enjoy its natural serenity. Basement, cellar, garage, attic ... Lovers of beauty, this is an invitation for you. The village of Autoire is nestled in an impressive cirque formed by high limestone cliffs. Small manor houses with turrets, delightful fountain surrounded by typical houses and river below contribute to the charm of this site. Near the village, a beautiful 33-metre high waterfall! Autoire, a classified 'most beautiful village of France', is to the north-east of Rocamadour and in the north of the Lot department of the Midi-Pyrenees, so it is accessible from the eastern Dordogne or southern Auvergne if your visit is based in one of these regions. The village is set in the attractive countryside of the region, with vineyards and fruit trees, forested hills and limestone cliffs looking down on the village and is a quiet, very attractive Quercy village in the traditional light stone of the area, with several colombage buildings. The village isn't very large - a 'main street' through the centre and a small road that winds up the steep hill behind the village - but it is pretty close to perfect, with a lovely mix of houses and buildings around the central square and fountain, and a small church. One particular highlight is the Chateau de Limargue, a manor house of the 15th century with several turrets. Behind the church of Saint-Pierre there is a small belvedere with views along the valley in which Autoire is situated. Many of the buildings have unusual and interesting features - keep an eye out especially for some lovely decorative stone windows. It's hard to define the appeal of Autoire, but it is one of those villages that simply belong where they are, a lovely ensemble of traditional buildings in a lovely setting - hence the number of artists who tend to be attracted by the village. The village is best visited in spring, when it has a widespread reputation for the flowers that fill the streets and gardens.
